Dino Maamria: We need to work on our end product

Stevenage manager Dino Maamria will order extra shooting practice after his side spurned chance after chance to claim a home win against Port Vale.
Maamria’s face was frequently etched in frustration as opportunities went begging.
His side had lost their last three games – shipping 11 goals in the process – so at least a goalless draw meant a clean sheet.
But that still came as little solace to a glum Maamria.
“The chances we missed were unbelievable. We need to work on our end product,” he said.
“First half we were brilliant and I think we did everything but score. We had our expectations from the game and I think we worked very hard to win it.
“I thought we were excellent first half but I think we lost our edge in the second half.
“I think that’s understandable because we played the majority of Saturday’s game with 10 men so it’s no wonder we ran out of legs tonight.
“Our play from the defensive third to the attacking third is very good, so it’s just that end product we need to work on.
“They played in a compact manner and really made it difficult for us. Overall we deserved to win the game and we should have.”
Luther James-Wildin should have put the visitors ahead after just two minutes as Vale seemed content to sit back and soak up the pressure. However, he blazed wide after racing into the box.
Alex Revell fired a shot off the woodwork after just 15 minutes as the match continued to be one-way traffic, with Tom Pope also going close and Kurtis Guthrie a constant irritant for the hosts.
Port Vale also had their chances too – Ricky Miller twice going close to snatching their second consecutive away win after Saturday’s victory at Oldham.
“It was a very hard-earned and well-deserved point. We’re happy to be leaving the game with a point,” said manager Neil Aspin.
“The players dug in fantastically well and we managed to withstand everything they threw our way.
“Stevenage are a very good side, make no mistake about it.
“But we found a way to combat their threat and take something from the game, which we’re proud of.
“Sometimes you have to grind it out and that’s what we’ve done in our last two games and long may it continue.
“This result and the 1-0 win at Oldham (on Saturday) have been full of commitment and a great response after that heavy defeat (6-2) against Lincoln.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better response from my players really.”
