Hill hits out at referee after heavy defeat

Rochdale manager Keith Hill could find himself in hot water after hitting out at referee Alan Young after his side’s 3-0 defeat at Wycombe.
Wanderers secured back-to-back league wins for the first time this season as goals from Bryn Morris, Adebayo Akinfenwa and Fred Onyedinma gave Chairboys boss Gareth Ainsworth something to smile about.
But Hill was far from happy with the man in the middle.
“The way the whole game was orchestrated by the conductor in the middle of the pitch (referee) wasn’t great at all,” he said.
“It’s really sad that we’ve witnessed a poor performance from the referee tonight.
“Our fans have travelled a long way for the game and they will head back disappointed, as will the players.”
Hill did not only blame the ref, claiming his players showed naivety in how they handled the hosts’ threat – something he knows must change before this weekend’s visit of Charlton.
“We played right into their hands really,” he added. “They’ve got a big, strong side and we gave away far too many free-kicks.
“We were a bit naive to their tactics if I’m being brutally honest. They’re a very good side, so you’ve got to be streetwise and be more intelligent to it than we were.
“The players have got to press the reset button. We forgot our brain a little bit.”
In contrast, Ainsworth was able to relax and enjoy his evening thanks to Morris’ spectacular 30-yard strike that put his side in control after just 10 minutes.
Rochdale huffed and puffed but Wycombe always seemed to have their measure.
Ian Henderson had the best chance for the visitors, while Jordan Williams will rue snatching at a shot when also well-placed to level.
However, Akinfenwa controlled Joe Jacobson’s free-kick on his chest before slamming home a volley to score his fifth goal in eight games 23 minutes from time to double the advantage.
And Millwall loanee Onyedinma wrapped the game up in the 72nd minute, heading home Alex Samuel’s cross. Callum Camps rattled a post for Rochdale in stoppage time.
“We’re absolutely delighted with that result,” said Ainsworth, whose side travel to Walsall this weekend. “Three goals at home, what more can you ask for?
“I think we executed our game plan perfectly and to score three goals against a side like Rochdale is testament to that.
“The most pleasing thing is that we’ve kept a clean sheet against a side who have found it easy to score recently.
“These players deserve all the credit they receive. They work hard in training and it shows with results like this.
“Hopefully we can get on a bit of a roll now. We’ve won two games in a row and that momentum will be crucial for us.”
