Derek Adams confident Plymouth’s fortunes will change

Plymouth boss Derek Adams is adamant his side will soon end their winless start to the Sky Bet League One campaign.

Argyle’s latest defeat came at Blackpool, who secured victory thanks to Mark Cullen’s 14th-minute strike.

The visitors ended the game with nine men after right-back Donervon Daniels and midfielder Marc Bola were red carded by referee Neil Hair in added time.

But Plymouth were left to rue another near miss, after striker Freddie Lapado hit a post with an audacious back-heel in the first half.

Adams said: “Over the 90 minutes we just haven’t been able to get the ball into the net.

“We have had a lot of pressure, spent the majority of the second half in the Blackpool half and just haven’t been able to get the goal.

“We haven’t been clinical enough in front of goal. It looked as though it just wouldn’t go in for us today.

“We have had a number of close calls and we haven’t been able to get the ball in the back of the net.

“You could say that Blackpool defended well, they defended their box in numbers and we certainly had enough bodies in the box to get a goal.

“We need to score goals and we aren’t doing that.

“We aren’t just talking the strikers. We are talking set plays and midfielders as well.

“It will turn, it always does. We will get the win that our play deserves.

“Until then we will just keep working hard.”

Blackpool boss Terry McPhillips was delighted with another clean sheet.

He said: “It is a great win, it is another clean sheet. That is four away (league) games on the trot we have kept a clean sheet.

“It is our best win of the season, Plymouth are a great club so to come here and get the victory is superb. We all buzzing in there, it keeps the run going.

“They put some pressure on us. We want to win as many as we can and do our best to get in the play-offs.

“We have won the game and we have also missed some chances.

“We only scored one but we had some terrific chances.

“It was an even game. Plymouth are a good side and have got some good players.

“We know some of their players and they have recruited well. They are in a false position, it’s as simple as that and I thought we shaded it.”

On the red cards, McPhillips said: “I haven’t seen it back and we will have another look at it on Monday.

“I didn’t think the referee had the best game.

“Donervon was upset that maybe Marc didn’t head it away and ran over to him.

“I thought it was really harsh to send them both off and summed the referee up.”
