Braintree off the mark thanks to Joe Ellul’s winner

Joe Ellul netted a second-half winner as Braintree registered their first victory of the National League season with a 1-0 triumph at Gateshead.
The home side threatened to take the lead after half an hour when Greg Olley got on the end of a fine move but fired just wide with an effort from the edge of the area.
But Braintree went in front 10 minutes after the break when Ellul headed in a free-kick at the far past.
With 20 minutes to go, goalkeeper Ben Killip saved with his legs as Braintree hung on to their lead to secure a vital victory.
