Colchester midfielder Brandon Comley returns to the squad for the visit of Cambridge after making his international debut for Montserrat.
The 22-year-old missed the draw at Tranmere last time out as he was travelling to the Caribbean but was back in plenty of time to be considered for selection.
His availability may mean 20-year-old Diaz Wright, who made his full league debut last time out, steps down.
Midfielder Tom Lapslie is likely to be out for at least another four weeks after knee surgery.
Cambridge captain Greg Taylor is expected to return to the starting line-up.
The defender was an unused substitute last time out against Carlisle with manager Joe Dunne deciding to hold him back for the trip to Colchester.
Midfielder Paul Lewis played the final five minutes against the Cumbrians after his comeback from a hamstring injury and is in line to return to the starting line-up.
Striker Barry Corr could be in contention for a start but Harrison Dunk is not yet ready to return.
