Wimbledon skipper Deji Oshilaja back to face the Black Cats

Wimbledon captain Deji Oshilaja is in line to return to the fold for Saturday’s League One clash with in-form Sunderland.

Oshilaja was an unused substitute for Tuesday night’s 3-1 home defeat by Walsall because of illness, but is set to lead the side out against the Black Cats.

Fellow defender Tennai Watson could also return after being rested against the Saddlers following a run of three games in a week.

Scott Wagstaff, Tom Soares and James Hanson were also missing from the starting line-up in midweek and they too will hope for recalls.

Sunderland boss Jack Ross has not given up hope of having full-backs Bryan Oviedo and Adam Matthews available.

The pair sat out Wednesday night’s 4-1 victory at Gillingham because of knocks with Oviedo not even travelling with the squad – which stayed in the south after the midweek fixture – but he could yet join up, although Matthews is closer to a return.

Donald Love returned from an ankle injury at Priestfield, while former Hibernian midfielder Dylan McGeouch made his debut for the club as a substitute after shaking off his own fitness concerns.

Striker Charlie Wyke is close to resuming training after a knee problem, but Jerome Sinclair, Tom Flanagan, Aiden McGeady and Duncan Watmore are still out.
