ARSENAL new boy Lucas Torreira will make his debut on Saturday against Lazio, Gunners boss Unai Emery has revealed.

Torreira joined the north London outfit from Sampdoria last month for a fee believed to be in the region of £26million.

The Uruguay international’s addition to the squad was well received by Arsenal fans, many of whom were critical of Arsene Wenger’s failure to sign a defensive midfielder in his last few years at the club.

Many expected Torreira to make his bow yesterday evening in Arsenal’s pre-season clash against Chelsea, which they won on penalties.

However, the 23-year-old remained in London with Granit Xhaka, Nacho Monreal and Stephan Lichtsteiner to work on his fitness.

Emery is well aware of Gunners fans’ eagerness to get a glimpse of their new signing and has claimed they’ll be able to do just that this weekend.

"At the moment I am very happy with the players who are with here with us,” Emery said last night when asked if there could be any more new arrivals.

"There are more coming; Nacho Monreal, Lucas [Torreira] and [Granit] Xhaka will start to play some minutes on Saturday."

Emery kept tabs on Torreira before replacing Wenger at the Emirates helm and believes he’s destined for a bright future.

"In Lucas Torreira, we have signed a young player who is a very bright talent in the game,” Emery said of Torreira in an interview with Arsenal.com.

"A midfielder with great quality, I have enjoyed watching his performances for Sampdoria in the past two seasons, and we all saw him do very well for Uruguay in the World Cup.
