Andres Iniesta will wear his favourite No. 8 at his new team Vissel Kobe, after the J1 League has changed the rule dictating that number switches were prohibited mid-season.
In a move that highlights the importance of the Spaniard's signing for the country's football, league bosses have taken the step to adapt to the player's request.
Iniesta will take his new number from Hirotaka Mita, who will wear No. 7 for the rest of the season.
Meanwhile, Fernando Torres will be the second player to benefit from the alteration in the league's regulations.
The former Atletico Madrid striker is set to receive No. 9 from Sagan Tosu's South Korean striker Cho Dong-geon, who will take charge of No. 19.
