Arsenal fans in tears as they react to the news that Jack Wilshere will leave the Emirates at the end of the month

ARSENAL fans have been left inconsolable following the news that Jack Wilshere will leave the club at the end of the month.

The 26-year-old announced on Instagram that after 17 years of service to the Gunners, he was ready for a new challenge following discussions with Unai Emery.

Arsenal star Jack Wilshere announced he would be leaving the club on social media

Wilshere is set to become a free agent at the end of June, and even offered to take a pay cut to remain with the North London outfit.

But after being told he would be a fringe player at the club, the England international has taken the step to leave the Emirates for good.

The former Bolton and Bournemouth loanee has become a huge fan favourite since making his debut when he was just 16.

But after being plagued by a number of injuries over the years, he has become a somewhat peripheral figure at Arsenal.

Still, he managed to rack up 38 appearances in all competitions last season, with many believing he was getting back to his best.

He was snubbed by Gareth Southgate for England's World Cup squad, and his summer has only gotten worse as he leaves the club he has called home since 2001.

Understandably, Arsenal fans have been left heartbroken at the exit of one of their cult heroes and academy graduates.

Wilshere won two FA Cup's with the Gunners, and amassed a total of 14 goals in 197 games for the Europa League semi-finalists.

Crystal Palace have been linked with the dynamic midfielder, while Serie A champions Juventus are also keen on landing the former PFA Young Player of the Year.
