David de Gea had a night to forget for Spain against Portugal as his error on the stroke of half-time gifted Portugal the lead against the run of play.
Post-match, Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho did his best to stick by his man but accepted that it was a poor mistake to make.
"It's my boy, it hurts me to say but he knows it's a bad mistake," he told RT.
"It's a mistake he doesn't make with us, United - player of the season, fantastic performances."
"But that happens to the best.
"The good thing about the best is that in the next game they'll be there, without fear and confident, ready to help their team."
De Gea will be aiming to do exactly that on Wednesday against Iran.
