Nabil Fekir to Liverpool OFF? Contract and interview done, deal in doubt over knee worry
Will Nabil Fekir definitely join Liverpool from Lyon?

NABIL FEKIR'S move to Liverpool is said to be on hold over worries about the Lyon attacker's knee.

Fekir was thought to be on the verge of joining Liverpool as they looked to push a £53million deal through before he travels to Russia with the France national team for the World Cup.

The 24-year-old completed a medical in Paris and terms have been agreed on a five-year deal.

And according to The Guardian, Fekir has even done an interview with Liverpool's in-house television channel.

However, the report says there is an issue with Fekir's fitness after he suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury in September 2015.

The France international recovered sufficiently to play a major role in Lyon's 2017-18 campaign but there is now a delay which threatens to scupper the deal.

On Friday, Lyon released a strongly worded statement denying there was an agreement for Fekir to join Liverpool.

The statement reads: "The information on the transfer of Nabil Fekir is false. Olympique Lyonnais categorically denies the false information disseminated by many media about the transfer of Nabil Fekir to Liverpool.

"In this period of transfers where the slightest rumour is often presented as a reality, Olympique Lyonnais recalls that only the information disseminated by the club on its website is authentic."

And club president Jean-Michel Aulas added: "His case is at a standstill. It has not at all advanced. The case won't certainly be resolved during the World Cup and I do not think that there will be changes before.

"We have not placed a base price because we have not yet discussed that."

France play the USA in their final warm-up match before the World Cup and Fekir would be expected to play a part.

But with his situation now up in the air manager Didier Deschamps may leave him out.

A complete breakdown in the deal for Fekir could lead to Liverpool pursuing Stoke midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri, who is available for around £12m.
