Man United set sights on Monaco defender

According to a report from French outlet Telefoot, Premier League giants Manchester United are readying a summer move for Monaco full-back Djibril Sidibe.

Sidibe, a 25-year-old French international, has been on the books of Monaco since joining the club from fellow Ligue 1 outfit Lille in the summer of 2016.

And the powerful full-back, known for his abilities in attacking areas, has since gone on to establish himself as an absolutely crucial member of Leonardo Jardim's squad at the Stade Louis.

Sidibe appeared 29 times during Monaco's Ligue 1-winning campaign last season, racking up 2 goals and 5 assists, with the 15-time capped Les Bleus' international having already added a further 2 league goals and 6 assists for the principality outfit during the current campaign.

Sidibe was one of a number of Monaco's stars to be linked with a departure from the club last summer, following the amazing campaign which saw Les Monégasques clinch the French top-flight title and reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.

However, in the end, despite the departures of the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva, Sidibe, along with Fabinho and Thomas Lemar, stayed put.

Old Trafford bound?

But, as per the aforementioned report from Telefoot this evening, Monaco look set for a fight to hold onto Sidibe once again this summer, amid claims that Manchester United are readying a move for the stopper.

The Red Devils are known to be on the lookout for reinforcements at right-back due to Antonio Valencia's age, with Sidibe reportedly viewed as an ideal long-term replacement for the 32-year-old Ecuadorian.

However, Monaco are not expected to allow the Frenchman to leave on the cheap, with his current deal with the club not set to expire until 2022.
