Mohamed Salah almost unstoppable, says Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk
Mohamed Salah has scored 37 goals this season

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk insists Mohamed Salah is capable of beating any defender in Europe when on top form, as the Reds prepare to face Manchester City in the Champions League.

City travel to Anfield on Wednesday night for the first leg of their all-English quarter-final tie against Liverpool.

Salah is set to pose the greatest attacking threat to City, having already scored 37 goals in all competitions this season, and Van Dijk believes the Egypt international is almost unstoppable when at his best.

When asked if Salah was capable of doing serious damage to City, Van Dijk said: "That's what everyone knows. That's how we feel as well.

"He's that kind of player that you just need to be on your best. When he is 100 per cent and in the zone then he can beat anyone.

"There are ways to stop him but I'm not going to tell you because I don't want our opponents to think about it."

Salah is expected to challenge City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne for the Professional Footballers' Association Players' Player of the Year award at the end of the season, but Van Dijk believes the Egyptian could not have enjoyed such a successful season without the work of his team-mates.

"Mo is a great guy and works hard, just like the rest of the guys," he said.

"I think everyone in the dressing room are just normal guys. Nobody feels better than each other, everybody is working hard for each other to get the win.

"That's a very good thing to have in a team. Everyone knows our team spirit and without all of us Mo wouldn't have scored his goals.

"That's what he knows and that's what everyone knows. Everyone needs to be giving 100 per cent and I think we do that."
