Tom Pope unlikely to be risked in Port Vale’s clash with Chesterfield

Port Vale captain Tom Pope has returned to training but is unlikely to be risked, despite manager Neil Aspin describing the visit of fellow strugglers Chesterfield as a ‘cup tie’.
The 16-goal forward has not played for a month after hernia surgery and while the Good Friday match may come too early, Pope could be in contention for Monday’s short trip to Crewe in another pivotal game.
Defender Antony Kay may return to the squad for the first time since hernia surgery in February.
Midfielder Adam Yates has announced his retirement after accepting his career was ended by the fractured cheekbones, nose, jaw and eye sockets he sustained in an accidental collision with team-mate Sam Hornby in November.
Chesterfield midfielder Robbie Weir has shown no ill-effects from a knee problem having played 84 minutes of Sunday’s win over Notts County.
Jordan Sinnott, who has not played since November because of an ankle injury, is now fit but lacking in match sharpness.
Fellow defender Ian Evatt is still a few weeks away from making a return from a knee injury sustained just before Christmas.
Midfielder Giles Coke (Achilles tendon) could make his comeback before the end of the season.
