REAL MADRID star Luka Modric wants to join Arsenal when the transfer window reopens, reports say.

Real Madrid midfielder Modric has emerged as a shock Arsenal transfer target for the summer.

The Gunners are set to tinker with their squad following a dire season under Arsene Wenger and, regardless of whether the Frenchman stays in charge, an overhaul is expected.

Modric could leave Real Madrid with the La Liga giants set to embark on a spending spree of their own.

And Spanish outlet Don Balon claim the Croatia international is tempted to return to the Premier League and make the move to the Emirates.

Modric last played in England for Tottenham.

However, since leaving Spurs in the summer of 2012, he has become one of the best midfielders in world football.

Modric was voted as the worst signing of the season during his first campaign with Real.

But, since then, he has helped the club win three Champions League titles.

And Arsenal, Don Balon say, would love for him to make the move in the summer.

Modric has supposedly even asked Real if they will consider letting go at the end of the season.

But whether club president Florentino Perez grants him his wish remains to be seen.

The transfer could even hinge on who Real decide to sign as his replacement.

Manchester United's Paul Pogba has been linked after clashing with Jose Mourinho.

And Liverpool's Emre Can is another supposedly on Perez's radar.
