Colchester could hand their four new deadline-day signings a debut in the Sky Bet League Two clash against Newport.
Republic of Ireland Under-21 winger Olamide Shodipo arrived on loan from QPR, with striker Liam Mandeville signing from Doncaster.
Midfielder Ben Stevenson also came in from Wolves after joining the Championship leaders from Coventry, while full-back Aaron Barnes has signed on a permanent deal from Charlton.
Defender Ryan Inniss missed the 2-2 draw at Port Vale with an ankle problem, so will be assessed, while winger Brennan Dickenson is stepping up his recovery from a serious knee injury.
Veteran defender David Pipe could miss out for Newport once again as he is still struggling with a hamstring problem.
Mark O’Brien also missed the 3-1 defeat at Lincoln on Tuesday through illness, but the defender has now recovered.
Sean Rigg, Marlon Jackson and Tom Owen-Evans are back in training after recent injuries.
Joss Labadie and Frank Nouble will have to tread carefully as they are a booking away from missing the FA Cup fourth-round replay with Tottenham at Wembley.
