Southampton vs Watford - Bertrand and McQueen in race against time to face Watford
Posted Friday, January 26, 2018 by PA
Left-backs Ryan Bertrand and Sam McQueen face late fitness tests before Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino selects his team to face Watford.
Bertrand is the worst affected of several unspecified players struggling with flu, but Maya Yoshida and Shane Long have both been passed fit to return for the FA Cup clash.
Charlie Austin remains sidelined with a hamstring injury, meaning Long will compete with Manolo Gabbiadini to make an immediate return to Pellegrino’s starting XI.
Troy Deeney could join Watford’s lengthy list of absentees as illness is likely to sideline the striker.
Javi Gracia takes charge of his first game as Hornets’ head coach at St Mary’s and will hope Deeney will overcome his issue with a host of first-team players definitely missing.
Younes Kaboul (foot), Miguel Britos (ankle), Kiko Femenia, Tom Cleverley and Will Hughes (all hamstring) and Isaac Success, Craig Cathcart, Nathaniel Chalobah (all knee) are sidelined.
