Robertson irked by decision not to award Inverness a penalty against Dundee

John Robertson felt Inverness were denied a definite penalty in his side’s 1-0 Scottish Cup fourth-round replay defeat to Dundee.

Aaron Doran screamed for a penalty on the stroke of half-time when he claimed he was brought down by Jack Hendry.

However, referee Stephen Finnie ruled he was guilty of simulation and showed him a yellow card – to the fury of Caley Thistle manager Robertson.

“There was a big decision in the first half and anywhere else on the pitch that is a free-kick,” he said.

“We get a guy booked for diving when it was a clear penalty. It’s a penalty kick all day long and the referee took the easy option.”

Despite the defeat, which came courtesy of Scott Allan’s goal just after the break, Robertson felt his Ladbrokes Championship side gave a good showing.

“We gave as good as we got, if not more,” he added. “In the first half we never tested the keeper enough.

“You take encouragement but they showed the quality required for any team that beats us.”

Dundee manager Neil McCann was pleased his team showed enough to get into the fifth round to set up a last-16 tie with Motherwell at Dens Park.

McCann said: “I am delighted as the conditions were awful. Inverness have a lot of talented players and provided a real threat.

“They asked questions of a Premiership side but we handled that. Scott Allan made the difference in the game and it was a class finish.”
