TIKI TIME: Jose Mourinho and his stars will don fancy dress

Players including strikers Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford will don fancy dress for a taste of Polynesian tiki culture at former United defender Gary Neville’s new cocktail bar in Manchester.

The Old Trafford stars hope they will be able to avoid prying eyes when they hit the city-centre hangout Mahiki for their end of year bash.

Skipper Michael Carrick is expected to be in charge of the festivities but United insiders insist it will be a relatively low key affair.

A Red Devils source said: “Forget the Barcelona-style tiki-taka football – it’s tiki cocktails all the way this year.

"Gary’s place has been suggested because the players would like to support him.

"He brought it to Manchester in the summer and they will be able to relax without any grief.”

With United second in the Premier League and chasing Man City for top spot, manager Jose Mourinho is said to be undecided about when his squad can let their hair down.

He has ordered his squad to train at 5pm on Christmas Day ahead of their Boxing Day home match against Burnley, causing upset among some members of the club’s support staff.

The original Mahiki is widely known as a celeb haunt in Mayfair, London.

Neville, 42, brought the Polynesian hang-out to his home city in September in a joint venture with the nightclub’s founder Piers Adam.

Neville – now a respected Sky Sports pundit – has built up an impressive business portfolio since hanging up his boots and founded GG Hospitality with his old pal Ryan Giggs.

The United source added: “There are a lot of games to be played during December but the players hope Jose gives the nod.

"Cocktails and grass skirts – what could possibly go wrong?”

In 2007, the then United squad hit the headlines after a debauched Christmas celebration.

A guest at the party has described how she overheard a teenage girl having sex in a room with up to six men.

The party was held at Manchester’s exclusive Great John Street Hotel and around 80 handpicked women were invited to join the players who were already well into a 15-hour drinking marathon.
