Great sportsmanship
Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku has shown his true class with an act of sportsmanship following Manchester United’s win over Benfica in Portugal.
The forward was on the winning side as Marcus Rashford scored the only goal of the game to give Jose Mourinho’s men three points.
Though, it was the way that Rashford scored that really caught the headlines after a horrendous blunder from the Benfica goalkeeper.
Unfortunately for him, it was 18-year-old goalkeeper Mile Svilar who made his debut in goal for the Champions League clash.
Svilar broke the record for the youngest goalkeeper to feature in the top European competition but it wasn’t a night to remember.
Instead, it was a night to forget as the goalkeeper’s error gifted Manchester United the win, much to his despair after the game.
Svilar was clearly devastated and got emotional on the pitch at the end of the game, breaking football fans hearts.
Though, it was what happened after that which really showed us the true meaning of sportsmanship.
Class from Lukaku
Following the full-time whistle, former Everton striker Lukaku went straight to Svilar to comfort and console him.
Still young himself, the player knows the expectations that were placed on the goalkeeper and made sure he knew it happens to the best of us.
The lengthy conversation will no doubt stay with Svilar for the rest of his career but he will be hoping to put that blunder behind him.
Man United blow
While Lukaku and Svilar took up a lot of the post-match spotlight, some of that fell on Marcus Rashford.
That is because the player went down injured and could well now be set for a spell on the sidelines.
