Manchester City have offered Raheem Sterling plus cash in an attempt to sign Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez, according to reports.
City have been heavily linked with Sanchez all summer, with the Chile international having less than a year remaining on his contract with the Gunners.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been adamant that he will not sell Sanchez in this transfer window but City are attempting to complete a deal before Thursday’s transfer deadline, as reported by the Mirror.
It is claimed City, now in direct contact with Arsenal, believe their Premier League rivals will only part with Sanchez if a replacement is offered. However, the same report states Arsenal are more likely to consider a cash-only offer of above £70 million.
Sterling has scored in successive games for City against Everton and Bournemouth but, despite the quality he possesses, the 22-year-old isn’t guaranteed a regular place in Pep Guardiola’s starting line-up when all players are available. The winger joined City from Liverpool for £49 million in 2015.
Sanchez, who made his first appearance of the season for Arsenal in the defeat to Liverpool last weekend, has so far refused to commit to a new deal.
The 28-year-old made a significant impact last season as he scored 24 goals in the Premier League, while he created 78 chances.
