The Brazil international has been left out of the squad to face the La Liga side as he recovers from a back injury.
Barcelona are said to be very interested in signing the Reds playmaker after selling Neymar to Paris St-Germain for a world record fee of £198m.
And the Coutinho transfer saga is likely to rumble on until the Catalan side find a replacement for their forward.
Daniel Sturridge will also miss the game because of injury, while skipper Jordan Henderson is ill.
The game today is Liverpool's final pre-season fixture before they face Watford in the Premier League on Saturday.
