David Moyes has torn into his Sunderland team

The manager - whose side faces Arsenal - agreed with Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer who branded Saturday’s performance against Swansea “pathetic” and “lazy”.

Moyes says the stats confirmed Shearer’s view and warned those players eyeing a summer switch they could be harming their chances of landing a good move.

And he voiced his fear that some members of his squad are hiding behind minor knocks and niggles in an attempt to avoid being involved in the run-in.

"In many ways he (Shearer) was right,” Moyes said. "I was incredibly disappointed with the performance.

"A lot of them probably believe they have futures elsewhere but I think you have to perform on the pitch to do that.

"They think they have something better to go to but people who have been watching might say ‘no, you’ve not.’

"It was hard coming into work on Sunday morning because I was massively disappointed with the Swansea performance.

"What we are privy to and what we are able to see is the physical output and I would have hoped for a much better output than we had.”

And after confirming youngster George Honeyman was ruled out, Moyes said: “I’m more concerned that I’ve now got others who are saying they are injured as well.”

Moyes’ damning assessment of his players will concern Arsene Wenger who has questioned the professionalism of some teams that have nothing left to play for.

The Gunners are relying on Liverpool or Manchester City to slip up if they are to force their way into the top four.

Arsene Wenger has come under huge pressure to leave Arsenal this summer

And Wenger said: “We had to fight very hard at Stoke and Southampton, but some teams once they are safe have a breather which didn’t happen ten years ago.

"The league has changed mentally. Morally it has changed a lot.

"You have to put yourself in a position where you depend on your results only. Unfortunately for us that’s not the case for us now.”

He added: “When you are a manager you want your team to give everything until the last moment. You hope that results go your way.

"Some teams turn up, some teams are on holiday. You just want your team to play well.

"To be professional is to do your job well until the last day of the season.

"To look into the mirror and say you did it properly is vital. If we don’t have the results I am disappointed but what is not excusable is to not give your best.”

Wenger wants supporters to focus on Arsenal’s Champions League push and defy a planned mass boycott tonight.

The manager will face further protests calling for the end of this 21-year reign with several disgruntled fan groups urging supporters with a ticket not to attend or resell their seat at the Emirates as a mark of protest.

It’s the latest move to force Wenger out of the club.

But Wenger, who is yet publicly to declare his long-term intentions, said: “My message is always the same. It is to support the team.  I think we are always sold out.”

With Wenger’s future dividing supporters, rows of empty seats have been visible in recent home wins over Leicester and Manchester United.

Fan groups now predict there could be in excess of 10,000 empty seats against the Wearsiders.

A statement released on onlinegooner.com named Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone and Max Allegri of Juventus as alternatives to Wenger - before asking for stay-away fans to vote with their feet.

"We are calling on fans that feel the same way to boycott the match against Sunderland,” the statement read.

"Please consider joining us in this boycott. Don’t sell your seat to a tourist or give it to a mate. Let yours be one of the many gaps in the stands that send a direct and unarguable message to the directors. You do not want to watch any more of the same old same old.”
