United were among a host of Premier League clubs chasing the 18-year-old, who is the hottest prospect in world football.
Chelsea, Arsenal and City are interested too while Paris St-Germain and Bayern Munich are also keen.
But according to Spanish newspaper Marca, he has decided to move to Real Madrid.
The Monaco frontman wants to play under his French idol Zinedine Zidane, who has shown a personal interest in the player for years.
Kylian Mbappe is one of the hottest talents in world football
Marca say Mbappe is top of their transfer wish-list and they could break the £86m world-record fee to get him.
Real had tracked Antoine Griezmann, Eden Hazard and Paulo Dybala but they’ve now been placed on the backburner.
It’s said United will continue to fight for the hitman and they won’t let Real get him easy.
But the Bernabeu giants have a huge trump card in the transfer race given Mbappe wants to fulfil a dream by playing for them.
How Marca reported the Kylian Mbappe news this morning
Reports this week emerged claiming United had a mega-money offer knocked back by Monaco.
While their fierce rivals City were willing to splash out £60m on Mbappe last summer but their approach was rejected.
Chelsea, meanwhile, had Mbappe on trial at the club as a 14-year-old but no move materialised. A picture this week emerged of him wearing a Chelsea shirt.
Mbappe has scored 22 goals in 36 games this season for Monaco - including five in the Champions League.
