Claudio Ranieri opened up on his Leicester sacking
The Italian says he had never experienced anything like the shock of being told he was being ousted just nine months after winning the title.
Ranieri led the Foxes’ fairytale charge to the Premier League crown only to be ditched when the going got tough this season.
And he told inmates at a prison back home in Rome that what happened to him at the King Power bordered on the criminal.
The 65-year-old said: “Thinking of the dismissal by Leicester, the first thing that comes to mind is a sense of surprise even more than of bitterness.
"I had gone through a lot in my long career, but I’d never experienced anything like that. It was a shock. Even though, at the end of the day, these things happen in football.”
Ranieri added: “This is my world. I started coaching in the Interregionale league in Catanzaro. There were pitches with no grass, at times we had no water, no training equipment. I had to do it all myself.
"I never hitched my wagon to anyone, so what I achieved over the years was done with only my results on the field.”
Claudio Ranieri was sacked last month by Leicester
Ranieri was giving his support to the town of Amatrice which is desperately trying to rebuild from the devestation fo the recent earthquake and said the Mayor’s efforts eclipsed anything he had done.
"He is the real giant. I am just a Coach who had the good fortune to win a title with a fantastic adventure and then the disappointment of what happened afterwards,” he added.
"We achieved something remarkable by winning with Leicester and I hope that Amatrice can live their own fairy-tale.”
