Chelsea ‘Determined’ To Sign Arsenal Star This Summer

The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Chelsea are after Alexis Sanchez….
Chelsea are determined to sign Arsenal’s contract rebel Alexis Sanchez this summer despite the Gunners’ insistence they wont sell to a Premier League rival, according to the Mirror.
Sanchez is approaching the final year of his contract at the Emirates and the north Londoners are struggling to agree terms with his representatives over a new extension.
The Mirror claim Sanchez – who currently earns £140,000-a-week – is demanding a deal worth around £300,000-a-week but Arsenal are refusing to offer anywhere near that figure.
The Chilean international’s future in north London was plunged in to further doubt after he was dropped for Saturday’s game at Liverpool following reports of a training ground bust-up.
Sanchez is being widely tipped to find a new club this summer and Arsenal are expected to cash-in rather than risk losing him for nothing when his contract expires in the summer of 2018.
The Daily Mail reported earlier today that while the Gunners hierarchy has accepted they will need to sell Sanchez this summer they will refuse to do business with another Premier League club.
Arsenal have sold a number of key men to domestic rivals over the years with Robin van Persie sold to Manchester United under similar circumstances back in 2012 when he forced a move with just one year left on his deal.
The Gunners are more financially secure these days and are keen not to make the same mistake with Sanchez as van Persie proved to be an excellent signing for United after firing them to the title in 2013.
However, that’s not going to stop Chelsea as the Mirror claim they are ‘determined’ to sign Sanchez this summer with Antonio Conte keen to lure him to Stamford Bridge ahead of their return to the Champions League.
The Blues are expected to sell Michy Batshuayi following a disappointing debut season and Sanchez would be a sensational addition to the champions-elect if they could somehow get a deal agreed.
The 28-year-old has scored 20 goals and provided a further 17 assists in his 35 appearances so far this season so he’d provide another valuable threat in the final third alongside the likes of Eden Hazard, Pedro and Diego Costa.
However, I would personally be shocked if Arsenal agreed to do business with a rival like Chelsea as it would cause outrage amongst an already unsettled fan-base.
If the Gunners do end up cashing in on Sanchez this summer, I think they’ll do all they can to sell abroad to the likes of Juventus or Paris Saint-Germain.
