Manchester United failed with an £85m offer for Bayern Munich's Thomas Miller
Bayern Munich bigwig Jan-Christian Dreeson has told German outlet Bild that a monster offer was on the table from England.
Dreeson, the club's financial partner, revealed the bid had been slapped down by Man United.
Bild say the offer was worth €100m (£85m) but Bayern weren't interested in selling their prized asset.
"There really was such a thing," he said.
"Then came a fax from England.
"For us, however, a sale of Thomas Muller was never discussed.
"If a player fits us, we would be stupid to give him a short-term prospect of a record profit and to weaken him."
Manchester United spent big last summer in Jose Mourinho's first summer in charge.
The Premier League side snapped up Paul Pogba for a world record £89m and Eric Bailly (£30m) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (£28m) joined too.
Veteran Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic joined from Paris St-Germain on a free transfer.
Muller would have provided competition up top for Ibrahimovic.
He'd also have battled alongside the likes of Mkhitaryan, Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Anthony Martial for a spot in Mourinho's team.
Muller has spent his entire career at Bayern.
He's won the lot with the Bavarian giants, including a treble of German league, German cup and the Champions League in 2013.
The 27-year-old also played for Germany in their 2014 World Cup win.
