Sergio Aguero could leave Man City - Pep Guardiola

Sergio Aguero has fallen out of Pep Guardiola's first-team after the arrival of Gabriel Jesus

The superstar striker’s future has been cast into serious doubt by the superb form of new teenage sensation Gabriel Jesus and his own admission that he doesn’t know if the club want to keep him.

Aguero has had to settle for a place on the bench while Jesus has scored three goals in his first three starts.

And Guardiola says he cannot guarantee Aguero will still be at the club next season despite having a contract until 2020.

"At the end of the season, I don’t know,” said Guardiola.

"I would like him to stay but I don’t know what is going to happen. Even in my career, I didn’t know what would happen at the end of the season.”

Guardiola has preferred to go with a front three of Jesus, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling in recent games.

But despite struggling to fit into Guardiola’s high-tempo pressing game, his manager insists Aguero is doing his best.

"I was clear every time we spoke with Sergio from the beginning,” said Guardiola.

"I know his strengths. I know he’s trying.

"I know how much he fought against Tottenham and how many chances he had. But at Palace I saw three guys in front with a high intensity and said: ‘Wow, I like what they do.’

"In the last game it gave them continuity. My advice to the guys is: Keep going – show me again how good you are.

"Sergio knows the intention of his manager and the club. I don’t want to sell him, I want him to stay here for a long time until he decides.

"The reason he’s not played the last two games are because Leroy, Gabriel and Raheem have played amazing. That’s the only reason why.

"I can change the model and play all four but I am a guy who likes to play midfield players to have more control.

"If what I feel now is that if one of Leroy, Gabriel or Raheem should not play, then he will be in for them.”

While Ageuro struggles to impress his boss, Guardiola admits he admires Bournemouth midfielder Jack Wilshere.

The on loan Arsenal star has previously been linked with a move to City and Guardiola said: “I remember Barcelona when we played Arsenal - he left a massive impression. He played at a high level.

"I know the problem with Jack Wilshere was just the injuries. He is going to be back to being one of the best midfield players in England by far.

"He has the special quality with the ball, dribbling as a holding midfielder to attack central defenders – it’s not easy to do that.”
