Manchester City star Sergio Aguero is staying put
MANCHESTER CITY will not sell Sergio Aguero this summer and believe the arrival of Gabriel Jesus will help him re-discover his best form.
Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid have been alerted by Aguero's shock admission that his future is uncertain after being demoted to the bench for Manchester City's last two games.
But senior City figures have been quick to dismiss suggestions that Pep Guardiola is ready to flog the Argentina superstar, who has scored 154 goals for the club since arriving from Atletico Madrid in 2011.
They believe the signing of Brazilian wonderkid Jesus will give Aguero – who is 29 in June – some much-needed competition for his place after being their unchallenged No 1 striker in recent seasons.
Gabriel Jesus has plunged Sergio Aguero's future into uncertainty
A City source said: "There is no vagueness about our position. We want Sergio to stay.
"Pep has repeatedly said he is an important player for us and if Sergio is saying it is down to the club, well the club really wants him to stay. No one here wants him to leave, and Pep has been explicit about that."
Guardiola has left Aguero out on five occasions this season amid suggestions there is tension between the manager and the striker, who is third in City's all-time list of goalscorers.
PSG could move for Aguero if they miss out on Alexis Sanchez
Aguero signed a contract extension earlier this season, tieing him to City until the summer of 2020 but that commitment could be tested if he is not a regular starter between now and the end of the season.
Real have held a long-standing interest in taking Aguero back to Spain, while PSG are understood to be interested if they fail to land their No 1 target, Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez.
