When Manchester United announced they had signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic on a free transfer last summer, many doubted if the former Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona star could cope with the pace of the Premier League. So far he has answered his critics by being Manchester United's best player so far this season.
The Swede is 35 years old, yet is playing like a player who has been plying his trade in the Premier League for a long time. He has adapted to the league like fish takes to water, scoring an impressive 19 goals and creating six assists in all competitions for the Red Devils so far this season. He has 14 goals in the Premier League this season which makes him joint-top goalscorer with Arsenal's Alexis Sánchez and Chelsea's Diego Costa.
However, the former Sweden international only signed a one-year contract when he joined Manchester United in 2016 which means there is a chance he could leave the club at the end of the current campaign. Reports however claim United are ready to trigger a clause in the former-Milan striker's contract which allows the club to extend his deal for a further year.
The Sun state Manchester United are not only looking to extend his deal for just one year, but are ready to negotiate a deal up to two years. This could mean Ibrahimovi? gets an increase on his reported ï¿¡250,000-a-week wage.
Anyone who has seen the 35-year-old play this season will admit he hasn't shown signs of slowing down and United renewing his deal is certainly a step in the right direction. Aside the fact that he is still able to deliver on the field of play, his winning mentality and experience in the game will be very much needed in United's dressing room. Youngsters such as Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford could certainly benefit from Zlatan hanging around.
