PSV Eindhoven vs Atletico Madrid - Jetro Willems and PSV Eindhoven out for revenge

PSV Eindhoven defender Jetro Willems has declared he and his team-mates "expect revenge" on Tuesday when they host Atletico Madrid, who he thinks are "afraid" of the Dutch club.

The two sides meet in Group D to kick off their 2016-17 Champions League campaigns, six months on from facing each other in last season's round of 16.

It was Atletico who emerged from that tie triumphant, winning 8-7 on penalties after a 0-0 draw on aggregate.

And Willems, quoted on Monday by Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, said: "I expect revenge and that feeling prevails also in the group.

"Of course, you look at last season, when we were so close to them. Eventually, it was penalty kicks and then it's 50-50.

"Now we must play them again twice and we want to get everything out of that.

"I think that they are afraid of us."

PSV midfielder Gaston Pereiro was sent off at the Philips Stadion in the first leg of last season's tie and the Uruguayan is expecting things to play out very differently this time.

Pereiro told Marca: "It (his dismissal) left a bitter taste in my mouth.

"I've learned from it and it won't happen again.

"We won't see another 0-0 as we're going to try to win.

"We'll see what happens but we play with the support of our fans and we have to go out and give everything."

Atletico went on to reach last season's final, in which they lost a penalty shootout to cross-city rivals Real Madrid.

Los Rojiblancos defender Luis Filipe is excited to get this term's continental campaign under way.

Quoted on Monday by Atletico's official website, the Brazil defender said: "It's a grand stadium, a big game, the best competition there is, so we're excited.

"I expect a very complicated match - PSV have a good team. We're going to have to be at our very best to win."

On Saturday Diego Simeone's Atletico recorded a resounding away victory, thrashing Celta Vigo 4-0 - the scoreline by which Phillip Cocu's PSV won at NEC on the same day.
