Derby County vs Newcastle - Will Hughes doubtful for Derby
Posted Thursday, September 08, 2016 by PA
Will Hughes is a doubt for Derby as they prepare to host Newcastle on Saturday evening.
Hughes was struck in the face by a ball while away on international duty with the England Under-21 squad and, while Rams boss Nigel Pearson has said he suffered no concussion, he will be assessed.
Fellow midfielder Bradley Johnson is fit again after an ankle injury but forward Abdoul Camara will miss out against the Magpies after suffering a hamstring injury during the defeat at Burton.
New signings Chris Weale, James Wilson, Matej Vydra and Ikechi Anya are all available but Jeff Hendrick and Chris Martin departed on the final day of the transfer window.
Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez will have strikers Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dwight Gayle available once again as he looks for a fourth successive league victory.
Both men missed the 2-0 win over Brighton last time out after suffering concussion during the EFL Cup clash with Cheltenham, although they may have to compete with new arrival Daryl Murphy, who scored the final goal in the Republic of Ireland's 2-2 against Mitrovic's Serbia after coming off the bench on Monday evening.
Full-back DeAndre Yedlin will hope for a first start after making his debut as a late substitute against the Seagulls, while fellow new boys Achraf Lazaar and Christian Atsu will look for an initial taste of action for the Magpies.
However, midfielder Rolando Aarons will be sidelined for around eight weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured metatarsal, while keeper Rob Elliot, who signed a new four-year contract on Wednesday, continues to work his way back to full fitness after a cruciate ligament injury.
