Serie A superstar ready to miss Champions League and join Liverpool

After finishing the 2015-16 season as the top scorer in Serie A and one of the best in all of Europe, Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain's stock has never been higher and his suitors are lining up at his door with piles of money and promises of greatness. But the Argentina star seems to have different goals in mind and seems willing to pass on the Champions League in favor of joining a European football-less English giant.

According to Sun Sport, Higuain is eager to join Liverpool and be managed by Jurgen Klopp. There is certainly a potentially open spot for him at Anfield with disappointing striker Christian Benteke poised to be offloaded to another club this summer.

However, such a move would deprive Higuain of the Champions League spot he helped Napoli secure this past year, and wouldn't even get to play in the Europa League as a consolation.

Liverpool finished the 2015-16 season in eighth place and missed out on all Champions League and Europa League competition after losing the Europa League Final and League Cup Final respectively.

Higuain finished the 2015-16 Serie A season with 36 goals to claim the Golden Boot - doubling his scoring output from the year before. He has scored double-digit league goals in each of the last eight seasons dating back to his successful spell at Real Madrid.
