Morecambe 0 - 2 Plymouth Argyle: Plymouth back on track after beating 10-man Morecambe

Plymouth revived their Sky Bet League Two promotion hopes with a 2-0 victory over 10-man Morecambe at the Globe Arena.

Goals from Jordan Houghton and Jamille Matt gave Derek Adams' faltering side a much needed win although they were helped by the sending off of Alex Kenyon in the first half.

Houghton was the man to fire Argyle into the lead in the 14th minute after Reuben Reid's blocked shot found the Chelsea loanee, and he drilled a low right footed effort from the edge of the area past Kieran O'Hara into the corner.

The hosts hit back with Tom Barkhuizen forcing Luke McCormick into a neat save and Lee Molyneux heading wide from six yards after being found by Shaun Beeley.

But the home side's hopes were hit on the stroke of half time when Alex Kenyon was shown a straight red card for a foul on Carl McHugh, and Argyle exploited the advantage in the second half.

Two minutes after the break Jake Jervis found the unmarked Matt who stroked home his first goal for the Pilgrims from six yards out.

The home side, to their credit, battled hard in the second half with Chris Doyle volleying over from six yards and Kevin Ellison seeing a deflected shot hit the crossbar in the final minute but Plymouth saw it out to claim a first win in five.
