Carpi 1 - 1 Atalanta: Simone Verdi's penalty earns Carpi a valuable point against Atalanta

Simone Verdi's second-half penalty earned relegation-threatened Carpi a valuable share of the points from a 1-1 draw with Atalanta.
Carpi dominated the first half at the Stadio Alberto Braglia but went behind seven minutes after the restart as Jasmin Kurtic steered Marco D'Alessandro's cross-cum-shot beyond Vid Belec.
The promoted team were, however, handed the chance to level in the 76th minute. Marco Borriello fouled Fabrizio Poli in the Atalanta box and Verdi gratefully stepped up to rifle the ball past Marco Sportiello.
With 11 games of the Serie A season remaining, Carpi are six points behind 17th-placed Palermo and safety.
