A solitary Lucas Castro goal fired Chievo back into the top half of the Serie A table as Genoa went down 1-0 at the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi.
After a dire first half devoid of clear-cut chances, the Flying Donkeys took the lead when Castro leapt at Fabrizio Cacciatore's cross to head it past Mattia Perin in the visitors' goal.
Fifteenth-placed Genoa, who barely threatened in Verona, saw both Alessio Cerci and Luca Rigoni warm Albano Bizzarri's palms with half-hearted attempts.
A third defeat in five games leaves Gian Piero Gasperini's Grifone sitting only five points clear of the relegation zone.
