Stranraer 1 - 0 Ayr Utd.: Jamie Longworth strike helps Stranraer blow Ayr away
Posted Sunday, January 03, 2016 by PA
Stranraer moved up to eighth in Ladbrokes Scottish League One after claiming their second victory in a row with a surprise 1-0 win over promotion chasers Ayr.
The Blues had the first opportunity of the match when Scott Robertson headed wide early on while at the other end goalkeeper David McGurn saved brilliantly after Jordan Preston had burst through on goal.
It proved a crucial intervention as the hosts took the lead in the 57th minute, Jamie Longworth scoring from the rebound after Sam McCloskey's initial shot was saved by Ayr custodian Greg Fleming.
Ayr, who have now lost three of their last four league games, pushed hard in the closing stages but could not find a way through a resolute Stranraer defence.
