Southend United 0 - 0 Wigan Athletic: Leon Barnett frustrated as Wigan held at Southend

Wigan's Leon Barnett endured a frustrating afternoon in front of goal as the Latics were held to a goalless draw at Southend.
The centre-back had one effort cleared off the line, another well saved by Daniel Bentley and then saw a late attempt crash off the crossbar.
In contrast, the Shrimpers rarely threatened but did come close to scoring after just seven minutes when Ryan Leonard slammed a long-range shot against the crossbar.
Barnett then saw his low shot from Max Power's right-wing corner cleared off the line by Will Atkinson.
After the break, Barnett saw another effort from a Power corner tipped over by Blues goalkeeper Bentley before the Shrimpers keeper did well to palm away a well-struck long-range effort from Reece James.
Southend skipper John White sent a snapshot wide of the right post from 12 yards but Wigan nearly netted a last gasp winner when Barnett slammed another effort from a Power corner against the top of the crossbar.
