Bristol Rovers 1 - 2 Portsmouth: Portsmouth impressive as Jayden Stockley gets winner at Bristol Rovers

Jayden Stockley, only brought into the starting line-up when Adam McGurk was injured in the warm-up, netted Portsmouth's winner in a 2-1 League Two victory at Bristol Rovers.

The striker stretched to score with a volley from a Ben Davies cross on 71 minutes as the impressive visitors gained a deserved success.

Gareth Evans headed Pompey into a 29th minute lead from Kyle Bennett's right wing cross.

But Rovers hit back on 47 minutes when Jermaine Easter's near post shot from Daniel Leadbitter's cross rocketed against the crossbar and in off the back of goalkeeper Aaron McCarey.

Portsmouth should have been ahead before Evans broke the deadlock. On 20 minutes Conor Chaplin somehow contrived to head wide of an unguarded net from a Bennett cross.

Rovers' best first half effort followed a spell of pressure on 36 minutes, which ended with Pompey keeper Aaron McCarey making a fine save from Easter's volley.

The visitors played some eye-catching football going forward and were good value for their interval advantage. Rovers improved after the break, but could have no complaints.
