Mainz 3 - 1 Hoffenheim: Yunus Malli hits hat-trick as Mainz move past Hoffenheim

Mainz broke into the top three of the Bundesliga on Friday night thanks to a Yunus Malli hat-trick in a 3-1 comeback victory over a Hoffenheim side who slipped into the bottom three with their fourth defeat in five games this season.

Jonathan Schmid gave Hoffenheim the lead early on, but it took only five minutes for Mainz to find an equaliser through Malli.

The Mainz midfielder put his side in front on the hour mark with a shot into the top corner of Oliver Baumann's goal, before putting the seal on their third win of the season with his fifth of the campaign midway through the second half.

Hoffenheim could not respond, leaving their coach Markus Gisdol under pressure as their worst ever start to a Bundesliga season continues.
