Levante 1 - 2 Celta Vigo : Aspas nets Celta winner

Former Liverpool striker Iago Aspas enjoyed a dream return to boyhood club Celta Vigo by snatching the winner as his side downed 10-man Levante 2-1.

Lucas Alcaraz's side had Simao Mate sent off after just four minutes and then went behind five minutes before the break due to Fabian Orellana's low driven effort.

New Levante signing Verza levelled from a free-kick nine minutes into the second period, but Aspas tapped home from a couple of yards out to restore the Galicians' lead on 76 minutes.

The hosts' new season got off to a nightmare start due to the petulance of Simao, who fouled Orellana when the game was only a few minutes old and then trod on the Chilean forward's ankle, earning himself a straight red card.

Orellana recovered from the incident to give the visitors the lead before the break, arrowing the ball into the bottom corner after a smart run and cut back from Jonny Castro.

Celta squandered a couple of chances to extend their lead either side of half-time and were then pegged back by Verza's free-kick, but Aspas put them back in front by turning Orellana's low pass into the net.

The 28-year-old nearly scored again in injury time when he tried his luck from range, but his shot struck the post, and he would have to settle for just the one goal.
