Griezmann: I want to go very far with Atletico

Antoine Griezmann ended his first season at Atletico de Madrid as the club's highest scorer, but he is hungry to do better still.

What's your take on Atletico's season?

In my view it was a very good one. The most important thing was to qualify for the Champions League and we achieved that target.

Did you envisage ending the season as the team's top scorer?

My only thought was to score more goals than last year because I always want to improve.

What's the secret behind you being more prolific?

I've played closer to and inside the area rather than out wide, plus I've done better in one on ones and, of course, the more you score, the more confidence you gain.

Can you beat Real Madrid and Barcelona to trophies next year?

If we go about things the right way, we'll win trophies.

It will be important for the club to keep the spine of the squad together to keep growing

Yes, but then if a club comes knocking and puts money on the table, it's difficult to say to a player, 'No, don't leave'. But it would be good to keep everyone.

And what if a club like the ones you're talking about comes in for you?

I feel good at Atletico; I'm not the sort of player who moves after one year. I need to learn and I know that I can do that and go very far at Atletico. Hopefully that's the case.

But the interest from Chelsea and Bayern must make you proud...

I don't know if it's true or not because they could just be rumours, but I'm happy at Atlético.

And where do you see yourself in the future? How far can you go?

I don't know, I'm only thinking about Atletico. I want to be an important player and perform to the best of my ability.
