Fiorentina and Sampdoria square off at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on Saturday with a chance to get a vital win against opponents who are also fighting a spot in European football next season.
Four wins on the trot have lifted Champions League-chasing Samp to fourth in the standings - just four points behind Lazio, who are third with 10 games remaining.
The top three teams qualify for Europe's elite club competition next term.
"There are many teams close to us in points and we know that the minimum mistake can compromise everything," Samp striker Pedro Obiang told Sport Italia.
"On Saturday we take on Fiorentina and we will try to confirm all the good things we have done so far."
Sinisa Mihajlovic's Samp have kept clean sheets in their last three league games and have not lost on the road since February 15.
Fiorentina are two points and two places behind Samp after their 2-2 draw at Udinese last time out - a result which extended their unbeaten run to four league games.
The Viola have lost just one of their last 11 league matches.
Fiorentina, who will host Juventus next Tuesday in the Coppa Italia semi-final holding a 2-1 advantage from the first leg, have lost just two games in Florence this season - the most recent against Napoli in November.
Vincenzo Montella's side are also through to the Europa League quarter-finals, where they will face Dynamo Kiev.
"We want to do well in all three competitions," Montella said. "We have done important things so far but we still have nothing to show for it.
"I would love to win a cup this season but we need to keep working and focus on one task at a time."
Fiorentina will be eager to avenge their 3-1 defeat at Samp earlier this season.
The hosts are without injured defenders Manuel Pasqual and Stefan Savic, while midfielder Josip Ilicic must serve a one-match ban.
Citadin Eder, who scored on his Italy debut to hand the Azzurri a 2-2 draw against Bulgaria in last Saturday's Euro 2016 qualifier in Sofia, will lead Samp's attack alongside Samuel Eto'o.
Eder is Sampdoria's top scorer with nine goals.
