Lyonnais vs Nice preview - Fournier: Lyon are not favourites
Posted Friday, March 20, 2015 by PA
Lyon boss Hubert Fournier does not believe his team are favourites for the Ligue 1 title going into the closing stages of the season.
OL go into the weekend's fixtures with a two-point lead at the top of the table but could find themselves a point behind Paris St Germain by the time they kick off against Nice on Saturday afternoon.
Marseille sit in third place, four points behind the leaders, while resurgent Monaco are a further four points back but have 10 games left in their league campaign compared to their rivals' nine.
And Fournier insists he is simply focused on this weekend's assignment as the season sets itself up for a nail-biting finish.
When asked if his team were favourites, he told the French media: "No more than PSG, OM or AS Monaco. We are in the fight. But it is not taboo to talk about, it is not decided either.
"Our dream is to make a good match against Nice and take the three points.
"When you have PSG, OM, AS Monaco behind you, you must have the capacity to think they can claim the title.
"Our run of three away games has delivered mixed results with four points from nine. This was not a success but our opponents have not benefited.
"This leaves us in the battle for the title and Champions League places."
Yoann Gourcuff is set to be available for Lyon but top-scorer Alexandre Lacazette remains sidelined.
Defensive midfielder Lloyd Palun is back in contention for the visitors, who sit five points above the drop zone, and he knows Le Gym will have to be at their best on Saturday.
"It will take every effort to clinch a victory there and take the three points," he told www.ogcnice.com.
"We will leave nothing on the side."
