Burton Albion FC vs Hartlepool United FC preview - Edwards back for Burton

Posted Friday, December 12, 2014 by PA

Phil Edwards is available for Burton as Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's side prepare to host Hartlepool.

Edwards served a one-match suspension as Albion drew 1-1 at Exeter last weekend. The 29-year-old may struggle to regain his place in the starting line up following Kelvin Maynard's assured performance at right-back in his absence.

Jimmy Phillips could make his long-awaited return on Saturday. The winger, Burton's longest-serving player, has been out for eight months with a knee injury but has been in full training this week.

Central defender Ian Sharps (foot) and forward Lucas Akins (ankle) could also make the squad, with Sharps also back in full training and Akins resuming running this week.

Hartlepool trio Matty Dolan, Joe Ironside and Scott Fenwick will all return to contention as caretaker boss Sam Collins begins his second spell in charge.

Midfielder Dolan and striker Ironside, on loan from Bradford and Sheffield United respectively, and Fenwick, a recent signing from non-league Dunston, were all ineligible for last week's FA Cup defeat to Blyth Spartans.

Winger Jack Compton made his first appearance in over two months following knee surgery when stepping off the bench against Blyth and could make the starting line-up.

Defender Michael Duckworth is also pushing for a recall after missing the last two games due to a groin injury, but midfielder Tommy Miller (calf) is still out.
