BACK: Theo Walcott made his return to the Gunners' first team against Burnley on Saturday

The England winger still has this season and next left on his contract, but boss Arsene Wenger is keen to tie the winger up for much longer.

Walcott is set to feature again for the Gunners tonight against Anderlecht in the Champions League after making his comeback from a knee injury - which kept him out for nine months - in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat of Burnley.

Walcott signed a contract in January 2013, after months of difficult negotiations, which was for three-and-a-half years.

Yesterday Wenger said: “We are starting talks, we are starting to sit down with him.

“He has one-and-a-half years to go in December. It is never an easy job with him.

“It should be his peak years, yes, because he is going on 26. It’s the best years now, so hopefully we can profit from that.”

Meanwhile England boss Roy Hodgson misses out on the chance to watch Walcott in action tonight.

The Three Lions boss - who on Thursday names his squad for the Euro 2016 qualifier with Slovenia and friendly in Scotland - will instead be in Sweden to watch his old club Malmo play Atletico Madrid.

The Swedish outfit will be presenting Hodgson - who managed them from 1985 to 1989 - with a lifetime achievement award.
