Brighton & Hove Albion vs Wigan Athletic preview - Bennett set for Brighton bow

Posted Monday, November 03, 2014 by PA

Elliott Bennett is in line to make his second debut for Brighton against Wigan at The Amex.

The winger has rejoined Albion on loan from Norwich and will be in the squad, but fellow loanee Ali Al-Habsi cannot play against his parent club and with David Stockdale (finger) injured, youngster Christian Walton is set to start in goal.

Defender Aaron Hughes faces a spell on the sidelines after he was stretchered off at Bournemouth on Saturday with an ankle injury while Bruno (groin) is still out, so Inigo Calderon will come in at right-back.

Midfielders Solly March (back), Dale Stephens (ankle) and Andrew Crofts (knee) remain long-term absentees.

Leon Barnett will serve a one-match suspension when Wigan make the trip.

The central defender was dismissed in the closing stages of Latics' 3-3 draw with Fulham at the DW Stadium on Saturday, which extended Wigan's unbeaten run to six games - although five of those have been draws.

Ivan Ramis could be in line to take Barnett's place at the heart of the defence, particularly if an ankle injury keeps captain Emmerson Boyce sidelined once again.

Midfield pair Ben Watson (broken leg) and Chris McCann (knee) are expected to be back on the bench in the next few fixtures after their respective long-term injuries.
