Robin Van Persie rescued Manchester United with a last-ditch goal, but then got a ticking off from his boss.

ROBIN VAN SHIRTY: Louis van Gaal was not impressed by Robin van Persie's celebration after his equaliser against Chelsea

Fellow Dutchman Louis van Gaal was furious the striker was booked for taking off his shirt to celebrate his equaliser against table-topping Chelsea in the fourth minute of added-time.

The 31-year-old was scoring for United for only the third time this season, but he also picked up his third caution for his over-the-top antics.

"You have seen he did a stupid reaction after the goal," said van Gaal.

"You can be excited, but you don't have to pull of your shirt as you know it is a yellow card. It is not so smart."

Van Persie's late, late goal came just after Branislav Ivanovic was sent off for a second booking for a foul on Angel Di Maria.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho was unimpressed with ref Phil Dowd's decision to show red to the Serbian.

He also was clearly upset by Dowd's refusal to point to the spot in the first-half despite John Terry and Ivanovic both being grabbed round the neck in the box by Marcos Rojo and Chris Smalling.

But Mourinho refused to lash out, suggesting he would be punished by the FA if he did, although he did claim Dowd had made an error.

"We are four points in front so I can say next weekend it doesn't matter what the results are, we will be on top of the league," the Chelsea manager said.

"I prefer to be in front rather than behind because we have a little space for our mistakes, or the referee's mistake."

"I have no comments on the referee. You know I cannot speak, some can and some don't. One of the ones who cannot speak is me because you know what happens to me when I do."

Van Gaal - whose team went behind to a goal from Didier Drogba - also revealed he had told his men to watch the pressing games of Real Madrid and Barcelona in El Clasico on Saturday night in order to learn how to deal with Chelsea.

"At the Lowry (hotel) I said they could watch the second half and 17 out of 18 in the squad did. I was very pleased, I have never seen that before," he said.

"I said to them afterwards, 'You have seen what they have done'. Barcelona always pressing in front and Real Madrid also drop in and are very compact."

"I'm very pleased my team were always in our shape. In spite of Chelsea trying to kill the game my boys ran and fought until the end and, at the end, we scored."

"Chelsea are the best club in Europe at killing the game, but we still created one or two chances and scored the goal."

"I don't want to mention one player because I think we are playing as a team. But I think the fighting spirit for the second time, after West Brom, created a lot of chances."
