Cambridge United 2 : 1 Hartlepool United FC - Murray's Pools hit rock bottom
Posted Sunday, October 26, 2014 by PA
Paul Murray's first match as Hartlepool manager ended in a 2-1 defeat at Cambridge.
Murray, appointed on Thursday, saw the home side dominate the early stages. Their pressure paid off in the 26th minute when Kwesi Appiah touched a long ball into the path of Ryan Donaldson, who burst through and fired past Scott Flinders and into the far corner for his fifth goal of the season.
Hartlepool grew into the game and eight minutes into the second half Brad Walker forced Chris Dunn into action for the first time, the Cambridge stopper tipping over the midfielder's piledriver from range.
They were level in the 59th minute when Walker blasted home from inside the area after substitute Marlon Harewood pulled the ball back into his path from the byline.
But their work was undone just three minutes from the end when Harrison Dunk stole in to head his first Football League goal when Liam Hughes' long throw was met by a powerful flick by Tom Elliott.
The result sends Hartlepool bottom of League Two.
