Cummins rescues point for Exeter

Graham Cummins secured a 1-1 draw for Exeter with a well-taken late equaliser at Southend.

The Shrimpers went ahead in the 33rd minute when David Worrall headed home for the Shrimpers.

But Cummins' effort 13 minutes from time made sure of a well-deserved point for the Grecians.

Southend had the better of the first half, with Lee Barnard striking the left post from close range after Ryan Leonard's long-range shot had been deflected into his path by Jack Payne.

However, Exeter were on top after the break with Liam Sercombe forcing Daniel Bentley into a smart save with a low shot from long range.

But the Grecians were not to be denied and equalised in the 77th minute when Sercombe's through ball enabled Cummins to shake off Adam Thompson and lob the ball over the advancing Bentley.

Exeter then came close to winning it late on when Jimmy Keohane fired against the foot of the right post from 12 yards.
